    A Message from Mrs. G.

Our 8th graders have started their research papers. Students have been narrowing their topics, identifying sources, and creating source cards. Also we are reading The Maze Runner,
paying close attention to setting and characterization. For independent reading the students are reading Dystopian Novels. They are answering questions about their novel through the google classroom. They are also completing a webquest on the difference between Utopian and Dystopian cilvilizations.

The 7th graders are reading The Watsons Go To Birmingham,
focusing on the development of the characters.
We are now looking at perspective, and recognizing different points of view of one situation. Our independent reading is focusing on the Civil Rights Movement. As students read their novels, they are looking for references to historical accuracies. They will keep track of these references with sticky notes and a chart in the google classroom. They have created posters on The Civil Rights Movement as reflected in their novel and through nonfiction articles.

The 6th graders are recognizing the elements of
plot in fiction. We have started our unit on survival. Our anchor book is Hatchet. We will be reading non fiction articles about various people who have survived harroeing experiences. We will use these articles as sources for our research papers. The book club choices also reflect stories of survival.
