TOO SICK FOR SCHOOL TODAY?
Please keep your child home if they have any of the following symptoms:
- Fever of 100.4 or greater. Per NJDOH, a fever is defined as a body temperature ≥ 100.4 F from any site. Your child may return to school when they have been fever free for 24 hours WITHOUT the use of fever-reducing medication AND symptoms are improving.
- Vomiting and/or diarrhea. Your child may return to school when they have been symptom free for 24 hours.
- Worsening congestion, runny nose, and/or breathing problems. Your child may return to school with symptom(s) improvement and have been evaluated by a doctor.
- Persistent and/or productive cough. Your child may return to school if the cough is mild, infrequent, and has been evaluated by a doctor.
- New and not diagnosed rash. Your child may return to school after the rash has been evaluated by a doctor.
- Red, painful, and draining eyes. Your child may return to school symptom-free and has been evaluated by a doctor.
- Diagnosed contagious diseases. Certain illnesses (for example: COVID, FLU, RSV, strep throat, pink eye, coxsackievirus, etc...) are highly contagious! If a contagious disease is suspected, then keep your child home and consult with your child's doctor on their diagnosis. Length of absences varies depending on the diagnosed illness. Please alert the school nurse as soon as possible if your child is diagnosed with a contagious disease.
- The NJDOH, has general school guidelines that our nurse follows to determine school exclusions and track any suspected outbreaks.
