• Welcome to Miss. Liloia's 1st Grade!
First grade finished 2018 with some extraordinary work! We have become nonfiction experts, and are using amazing strategies to solve tricky words. In January, we will begin to use what we know about nonfiction books to begin writing our own nonfiction chapter books. Wait until you see what your experts write about! Coming soon we will begin to dive deeper into our books to focus on comprehension strategies. In math, we are continuing to develop problem solving strategies focusing on subtraction facts through 20. We are focused on counting on and counting back on a number line to subtract, and using tens frames for subtraction. Your little math-magicians can tell you exactly what that means! In science, we finished learning about light and what makes shadows. Students learned the difference between transparent, translucent, and opaque. We also studied how shadows are formed and sources of light. We will begin learning about school and community resources in social studies. We have chosen some amazing New Year's Resolutions. You should have some great helpers at home, as they plan on helping with cooking and cleaning! As always we love ending our week with Yoga. Ask your child to show you our newest pose, the Warrior Pose!
Please be sure to check your child's blue folder nightly. Homework and future assignment/test dates will be posted daily on my Homework page. Your child's blue folder will contain all homework and any notices that need to go home. Students will have their behavior calendar in their blue folder every day. Please review the calendar nightly and discuss your child's day.Your child should complete 10-15 minutes of reading each night from any book of their choosing.
Make sure your child reads nightly. It is very important to do this so your child can improve in all of his or her academic areas.
